Good morning all! Yes, you would be correct when you look at the title of this post and see DRAGONS?!?!? as the header, cause today, we just dropped our DayLITE: Manual Draconum Primer on DriveThruRPG. This lil book contains just six of the fifteen new dragons that will be replacing the standard 5e/Pathfinder dragons in the DayLITE Universe. It gives some lore, mechanical pieces with their lairs and names, and some amazing sketches to give you some vibes of what they will feel like in the final product. The other two people who are part of this fantastic book are Laura Tutu and Jen Forth. Jen has been with us doing art for a while now, ever since some of our first 5e microsettings, and got hooked on doing dragons when she did the art for Ramia: Rain and Faith. This book here came into being actually in relation to Ramia, in which while I was realizing that given the OGL snafu at the time - which, still fuck Wizards for that - we wouldn't be able to use the base dragons. So, time to make our own! And that is where this bloomed from, I got Laura to jump on (Laura designed the Hobspark lineage for Portal Portfolio), and she ran with the concepts. Above are just two of - again - FIFTEEN new dragons we have designed for our worlds, and you get to have a taste of SIX of them for FREE in this here primer. So, consider going to give it a looksie!

Today folks, we dropped our first official setting to accompany our d12 DayLITE System: Almsford. This originally started as a 5e-based project, but that quickly evolved once Wizards did their big oopsie and showed us their whole ass. Almsford also started as a simple homage to my hometown of Orford, NH - a town of about 1200 people sitting smack-dab in central-western NH right on the Connecticut River. Most folks know us because of Hanover (home to Dartmouth College, which is twenty minutes south) or because they drive through us to get to the White Mountains and places like Lincoln and Conway and such. But Almsford grew into something more as I brought new team members on, and I really have to credit Jen Forth, our artist, with that. The cover was the first piece of art we had done, which you can see below, and all I asked was for something evoking an old tourism poster from the 30s or 40s someone might see inviting you to go to Loon Mountain or Jay Peak. And boy did Jen deliver. From there, Devin and Cayde and Kat made this thing bloom with so much more life, as we added Appalachian and eldritch themes to this. Now, a big part is that we have to acknowledge that what we are telling is only a sliver and layer of the New England/Appalachian experience. There are other stories from these regions of the United States as well, from indigenous peoples' and POC as well, so I highly encourage you to check out projects like Old Gods of Appalachia and Coyote and Crow to give you other facets of these regions of the U.S. But, we did our best to bring together a small-town feel through the game. It's just a singular valley with seven towns - you could make it as big or as small as you want it to be. It is meant to be able to simply be a canvas for your adventures! Being that this is DayLITE, we provide the SRD with this book, meaning you have all the tools to build and create content for Almsford if you don't see something you want! Missing a career you might have wanted added? Well you can go ahead and in ten minutes easily structure something to work for you! So, click the cover above, and you can go check out Almsford for yourself!
Morning all! Out today on DriveThruRPG is our newest primer for our genre-specific takes on our DayLITE System. This time, we are focusing on science fiction. Science fiction in RPGs can be hit or miss, it really depends on how much you decide to focus on the science or the fiction side of things. As you can guess, we focus more on the fiction aspect, but also try to keep in mind what makes sci-fi GOOD.
With the primer, it offers six Lineages and six Careers for wanderers and Alders to look at, and also a first look at some of the rules we are designing for constructing Ships! This is a test, just like DayLITE: Fantasy Core Primer is, so all the downloads we can get and feedback we recieve will help out immensely. At the end of the day, Sci-Fi is meant to provide a rules-light approach to a genre that can be incredibly clunky and heavy, but when done right is amazingly fun. Even with the art direction - below you can see some of the concept work - is us trying to go in a different weirder direction from traditional science fiction. We hope that you leave some thoughts about it! - Cam Heyo gang! I wanted to get this started just as a place to drop some thoughts and ideas and concepts I might have along the way while we are designing. One thing that I have really been working on in order to balance time spent on the business versus on my full-time job teaching and time with my wife has been time management.
I know, a lot of people probably hear this and immediately tune out, but, like all things, time management is incredibly important. Natalie and I had several discussions about needing to make sure that now that we lived together (5 years long-distance before getting married) I would be able to set aside time for us as a couple. And lemme tell you, it was hard and sometimes still is. I often find myself completely sucked into work, just wanting to keep writing and doing layout and editing and the like, and forgetting to take breaks, to establish boundaries, and to remember that I have a full-time job already: being a husband and a partner. So, as a New Year's Resolution, I set myself a schedule of when I would do work for the company, and I now have it taped right by my computer. I make sure I take breaks, that I don't work longer than four hours at a time without some kind of buffer or gap, and that I don't forget what is important: to still have energy for all the other things we got going on in life. And that also means stopping projects or putting them up on the shelf for a while, especially if you are just not feeling it anymore. Don't waste time just trying to get something out because you said you would if you are tired of it or don't have the passion for it. Anywhose, that is all for now, going to try to keep posts semi-scheduled/planned. See you all later! - Cam |
